Book 15: China in Ten Words

This is a set of essays about words that describe today's China and the country during the Cultural Revolution of 1966 to 1976.

I really enjoyed Yu Hua's simple, expressive writing style. The stories were vivid, sometimes disturbingly so. The social commentary about today's China was also very interesting. I found it fascinating that some of the ideas, like China's environmental degradation for the sake of economic growth, were also mentioned by Thomas Friedman in Hot, Flat, and Crowded.
